Following the announcement at the weekend by the Legal Services Commission that Clare Dodgson is to leave her post as chief executive at the end of June, LAPG comments as follows: "Clare Dodgson came to the LSC with a number of ideas for driving the organisation forward, but her injury prevented her from bringing her ideas to fruition. Her prolonged absence has led to a lack of clear long-term leadership at a vital time in the development of the legal aid system, and the idea that she could return, given the amount that has happened since she went off sick was implausible. This was a decision that needed to be taken, and we look forward with interest to the appointment of a new Chief Executive. We hope that this will not herald an abrupt change in direction by the LSC, which we believe would be contrary to the interests of clients, the profession and the taxpayer alike."
